Tell Us About Yourself
Maverick, flexible, funny, analytical, travelled, well read, into theology and culture, Asian/Caribbean/British, down to earth, varied life experience, love discussions with people I connect with, interested in engaging the times in which we live from a biblical perspective, into pursuing authentic community, concerned about state of Western culture but seek Christians to discuss and engage with. Have lived a few different places mostly UK but once in New Mexico. Aptitudes are teaching, mentoring, writing, equipping.
I was born again in 1982. I had searched for God about two years following a short time in a foreign prison. I was filled with the Spirit and had an immediate and deep hunger for God’s Word. My initial conversion experience was followed by water baptism and speaking in tongues. However, I did not get rooted in a church and backslid for about 6 years. I repented in 1987 and returned to the Lord and attended a local church for a while before going to YWAM (Youth With A Mission) for just under a year. I completed a Discipleship Training School YWAM and went to South East Asia with a small team involved in church planting, evangelism and ministering one to one. A year after my return from YWAM I had a serious car accident that left me with a permanent and painful disability. It took me 18 months to walk again. This was the beginning of a long wilderness experience where God began a deeper work of sanctification. I began to teach and mentor young men who were hungry to learn in the local community church I was attending at that time. I have lived with chronic pain in my legs since 1989 as a result of this accident, and still do. Like Jacob I have wrestled in the dark and been broken but His grace enabled me to cling to receive the blessing of a deeper son-ship. The Lord began to work on my mind next. I spent the next few years getting grounded doctrinally, particularly distinctions between law and gospel. I read a lot on the Reformation and its effects on the whole of society. This then led me to research the history of western culture so the work of Francis Shaeffer helped me to understand the salient features of western culture and particularly its decline as humanism became dominant in the modern era. I lived in the States for a while and did a BA in Biblical Studies and during this time I started and led a group on Christ and Culture in the local church I was attending. I developed a deep interest in Apologetics and that still remains a passion. Also during this time I developed an interest in biblical masculinity and that developed into speaking at men’s groups and running and leading men’s groups, which I still love to do. Developing my mind and healing areas of my heart in terms of arrested masculine development have been major aspects of my sanctification. Recently I have taken three trips to Nepal, two with my wife. During this involvement with The Agape Mission International in Kathmandu, I wrote a book on Father absence in the West and its effects and the need for mentors and spiritual fathers in the church. I have been a part of this local grass roots mission since 2010. They rescue women from trafficking, homeless street children and develop local leaders. My role has been to teach and mentor the leaders in this mission. I have recently returned from a year in Nepal where I was involved in teaching, preaching, and mentoring, but am less involved with the mission now.
